I am a “Jack of all trades, master of none.” While in high school, I attended the Governor’s School
for the Arts at Furman University where I specialized in creative writing. I was accepted based on an
original play that I wrote as a project in my drama class. While there I studied with Bret Lott, author of
many books to include Jewel, an Oprah book club pick. I also studied with Deno Trakas, a published
poet and author. After this experience I enrolled in The College of Charleston to continue my studies
with Bret Lott. Rather than rushing any of the sororities while I was in college I chose to immerse
myself in the world of journalism. I held an internship with a local TV news station, and worked with Nancy O'Dell, who was Nancy Humphries at the time. I became an avid member on the staff of The Cougar Pause, our college newspaper. My senior year, I left the paper
to concentrate on my studies that eventually led to a BA in Communications. Then I stepped out into
the world to under-utilize my degree. I held a menagerie of positions that had little to do with formal
communications or the degree I held. I was a concierge in DC, then a veterinary technician in VA, and a
preschool teacher at a Montessori school in ID to name a few. A year after I graduated, I married the
man of my dreams, who joined the Air Force soon thereafter. The Air Force afforded us the opportunity
to travel. We lived in Guam, Hawaii and all over the states. While living in Guam we got to travel to
Australia, where we fell in love with Peter Lik’s photography. The Air Force also provided me the
opportunity to keep my degree current by funding a Digital Arts Certificate program through The College
of Western Idaho. This certificate is still in the works, and I have found Deviant Art a crucial resource in
my studies. I want to thank the entire group of artists associated with this website for all the inspiration
and resource stock they provide for me through the work that they share! Another constant source of inspiration for my art are the people (and four-legged furry friends) who share my home: my boys, Caleb and Nathan; my husband, Brian; and my Jack-Russell Terrors, Hannah and Cooper :) For now I am loving
life while I finish up my digital arts certificate, and am a stay-at-home mom to my two boys.
